Privacy policy

This policy explains what RankUp collects, why, and the choices you have, in line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

What we collect

• Account details you give us: name, email and/or mobile number.
• Your test attempts: answers, scores and time spent, used to grade you and compute ranks and percentiles.
• Enquiries you send to institutions or teachers: the details you enter in the enquiry form.
• Usage events (for example, which pages are viewed) recorded without personal details, to improve the product.
• Browsing logs — pages visited and buttons used, with an anonymous device identifier cookie — only if you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner. Once you log in they are linked to your account. You can withdraw anytime via "Cookie preferences" in the footer, which deletes the identifier.

How we use it

• To run tests, grade them on our servers and show you results, ranks and analysis.
• To pass your enquiry to the institution or teacher you chose — and no one else.
• To send exam alerts only if you opted in. You can switch this off any time in Profile & settings.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use:

• Essential cookies — your sign-in session and security. The site cannot work without them, so they are not optional.
• Preference storage — remembers choices such as light/dark theme and your cookie choice, stored in your browser.
• Analytics cookies — the browsing-log identifier described above, set only if you choose "Accept all".
• Advertising cookies — set by Google and its partners when ads are shown, as described below.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will stop sign-in from working.

Advertising and Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense, an advertising service provided by Google LLC, to show ads on some pages. Ads appear alongside our content and never inside the exam screen or in any YouTube video player.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
• You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
• Other third-party vendors or ad networks may also serve ads on our site. Where they do, they may use cookies in the same way, and you can opt out through the links above.

Where the law requires it (for example, for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland), we ask for your consent before personalised ads are shown. Without consent, Google may show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for purposes such as frequency capping and fraud prevention.

We do not share your name, email, mobile number or test results with advertisers.

Other third-party services

• Google Sign-In — if you choose to log in with Google, Google shares your name, email and profile photo with us.
• YouTube — study videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed (youtube-nocookie.com) and load only when you click play. YouTube's own privacy policy applies to the player.
• Cloudinary — hosts images and study files on our behalf.

These providers process data under their own privacy policies.

Minors

Accounts are for users aged 18 or over, or with a parent or guardian's consent. We do not send direct marketing to minors.

Your rights

You can access, correct or ask us to delete your personal data, and withdraw consent, by contacting us through the Contact page.

Security

Sessions are held in secure, HTTP-only cookies. Answer keys and grading stay on our servers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
